INTENTIONAL TORTS INJURY - MICHIGANAn intentional tort is a term used to describe a cause of action as result of a person's intentional acts rather than their inability to act reasonably (negligence). There is a long list of intentional torts. Intentional torts include assaults, battery, sexual assault or battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, actual fraud, malicious prosecution, abuse of process, false arrest or imprisonment, defamation, and invasion of privacy. Any type of criminal act usually is an intentional tort (shooting someone is a crime and is also a civil cause of action for assault and battery). The O.J. Simpson case is an example of a criminal case in which the defendant was found not guilty, but the defendant was sued civilly for his intentional tort of assault and battery.
